In Montgomery, Alabama, Thomas Reed, president of the Alabama chapter of the NAACP, was arrested after he and 11 others attempted to strike a Confederate flag flying atop the state capitol building.

7. 1981 -The Air Force Academy drops its ban on applicants with sickle cell trait.

8. 1965 - Geraldine McCullough Wins Widener Gold Medal
Geraldine McCullough, sculptor, wins the Widener Gold Medal award.

9. 1964 - Blacks, Puerto Ricans Boycott NYC Public Schools
School officials reported that 464,000 Black and Puerto Rican students boycotted New York City public schools. More than 267,000 were absent during second boycott, March 16.

10. 1956 - U of Alabama First Black Student
Autherine J. Lucy becomes the first black student to attend the University of Alabama. She was expelled three days later "for her own safety" in response to threats from a mob. In 1992 Autherine Lucy Foster graduated from the University with a master’s degree in education. The same day, her daughter, Grazia Foster,graduated with a bachelor’s degree in corporate finance.

11. 1948 - Black Mother and Sons Condemned to Death
Rosa Ingram and her fourteen-and sixteen -year-old sons condemned to death for the alleged murder of a white Georgian. Mrs. Ingram said she acted in self-defense.

12. 1948 -Laura Wheeler Waring, portrait painter and illustrator dies.

13. 1920 - Negro Baseball League founded
The Negro Baseball League founded.

14. 1903 - Jack Johnson, Negro Heavyweight
On February 3, 1903; Jackson became the first Negro Heavyweight Champion

15. 1874 - Blanche Kelso Bruce elected to US Senate
Blanche Kelso Bruce elected to a full six-year term in the U.S. Senate by the Mississippi legislature.

16. 1810 - Black Hero of Argentina dies
Antonio Ruiz (El Negro Falucho), national hero of Buenos Aires, Agentina, dies for his country.

17. 0 - Reginald F. Lewis
Lewis was born on this day in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1968. He was a partner in Murphy, Thorpes& Lewis, the first black law firm on Wall Street. In 1989 he became president and CEO of TLC Beatrice International food Company, Lewis became the head of the largest black--owned business in the United States. TLC Beatrice had revenues of $1.54 billion in 1992

Jonathan Jasper Wright

Wright, Jonathan J. (1840-1885) , the first African American to serve on a state Supreme Court, was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and grew up in nearby Susquehanna County in the northeastern corner of the state. In 1858, Wright traveled to Ithaca, New York where he enrolled in the Lancasterian Academy, a school where older students helped teach younger ones. He graduated in 1860 and for the next five years taught school and read law in Pennsylvania.

Eco-friendly phone for Nokia by Daizi Zheng

Daizi Zheng has created a conceptual mobile phone for Finnish brand Nokia that could be powered by sugary drinks.

The phone could be powered by a battery that uses enzymes,generating electricity from carbohydrates. This is called a Bio battery, which is an ecologically friendly energy generates electricity from carbohydrates (currently sugar) and utilizes enzymes as the catalyst.

Neat Isn't it? Not to sure about the Look.
